History read

Sun-dried Tomatoes were first cultivated in South America around 16th Century and have later on moved to the Mediterranean.

They were first yellow in color and were called “pomodoro”, in later years with the trade of red tomato seeds from Mexico, the product was fully introduced to the world.

Those early tomatoes were appreciated as an aphrodisiac among other uses and were given the name: “Love Apple”

The Italian peasants have used this method to keep their product throughout winter and to store it safely until the fresh product becomes available again. They would dry them on their terra cotta tiled roofs and through extensive trading, this has moved to other countries, such as Turkey, which is now the world’s largest producer of Sun-Dried Tomatoes.
